Paul highlights that our "access" to God isn't just a one-time event, but a continuous introduction into His favor, a state from which we are meant to boldly "stand" and find our joy. This isn't just about being let in; it's about being established in a grace that fuels our confidence and future hope.
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
English Standard Version (ESV)
Paul is building a powerful argument, showing how justification by faith, which he just explained in chapter 4, leads to profound peace with God. This verse explains the results of that peace, detailing how believers gain entry into God's favor and find joy in anticipating future glory. It’s a natural outflow from the assurance that their sins are forgiven and they are accepted by God through Christ.
Ever felt like you couldn't quite approach God directly? Like there was always a barrier? The Bible says we've been given a direct introduction, but it's not just a handshake – it's a full welcome.
Paul uses a powerful word here, 'access' (Greek: prosagogē), which means 'introduction' or 'the act of bringing someone in.' Think of it like being ushered into the presence of a king, not by your own merit, but by someone of immense authority who guarantees your welcome.
We're not just allowed in; we're invited to stand. What does it mean to have a secure position in God's presence, especially when life feels shaky?
The verse doesn't just say we are introduced; it says we 'stand' in this grace. This isn't a wobbly stance, but a position of security and acceptance.

Hebrews 10:19-22This passage directly parallels the idea of 'access' by explaining that Jesus' sacrifice has opened a new and living way for us to enter the most holy place. It underscores that our boldness to enter is not based on ourselves but on Christ's finished work.
John 17:24Jesus prays for His followers to be with Him where He is, desiring that they might behold His glory. This connects to Romans 5:2's mention of 'hope of the glory of God,' showing that our ultimate destiny is to be in God's presence and share in His glory.
