Forget timid, fearful approaches. The text uses a powerful word for our access to God. What does this 'boldness' truly mean for us today?
The original language word for 'boldness' (parrhesia) here doesn't just mean being loud or brash. It speaks of free, confident speech and open access, like speaking freely with a trusted friend. This isn't a boldness we generate ourselves; it's a gift. It's the result of Jesus' sacrifice.
Contrast with the Past
Under the Old Covenant, access to God's presence was restricted. The High Priest entered the Most Holy Place only once a year, with immense care and specific rituals, fearing for his life if he failed. The people were kept far outside.
Our New Reality
Through Jesus' blood, a 'new and living way' has been opened. We don't have to be afraid. We can come directly into God's presence with confidence because Jesus, our High Priest, has already paved the way for us.
