If our best efforts aren't enough, where does true acceptance come from? It's a divine gift, received by faith.
The amazing alternative Paul presents is 'that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.' This isn't a righteousness we achieve; it's a righteousness that is given to us by God.
A Divine Imputation
It's 'from God' – originating entirely with Him. It's 'through faith' – received not by earning, but by trusting in what Christ has done. God, in His grace, credits Christ's perfect righteousness to us. We are declared righteous not because we suddenly became perfect, but because Christ's perfection is legally transferred to our account when we place our faith in Him.
This is the 'good news' – our standing before God is secured by Christ's finished work, not our unfinished efforts.
