Imagine fighting for years, far from home, then waiting even longer for the official word to return. What does this say about these tribes?
Joshua calls the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh together. These were the warriors who had crossed the Jordan to help their brothers conquer Canaan. After the fighting was largely done and the land divided, Joshua summons them.
What's remarkable is how long they likely served. While the text doesn't give exact dates, some scholars suggest they might have been away for up to seven, or even fourteen years! They left their families and lands to fulfill a promise made by Moses. Their readiness to stay until the task was fully complete, even when the initial conquest was over and their own inheritance was settled, shows incredible loyalty and obedience.
