Joshua is about to lead the people across the Jordan, but a significant group has already settled on the 'wrong' side. What's their role in the conquest?
The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh had received their inheritance east of the Jordan River. However, they made a solemn promise to Moses and now to Joshua: they would leave their families and livestock safely behind in their new land and cross the Jordan with their brothers, fully armed, to fight until the conquest was complete.
This wasn't just a casual agreement; it was a covenant. Their safe settlement depended on the successful conquest of Canaan for all the tribes. They weren't just helping out; they were fulfilling a vital part of God's plan for the whole nation.
