Imagine leaving behind the peace and security of your new home, knowing your brothers still face danger. That's the challenge these tribes embraced.
The tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh had already received their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan River, a fertile and settled land. Yet, they had solemnly promised Moses and Joshua that they would send their fighting men to help their brethren conquer the west side of the Jordan.
The Call to Action
Joshua 4:12 highlights this commitment: 'The sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh passed over armed before the people of Israel, as Moses had told them.' They didn't just send a token force; they sent approximately 40,000 armed warriors.
Why It Matters Today
This wasn't about gaining more land for themselves. It was about solidarity and fulfilling a sacred oath. It calls us to consider where our loyalties lie. Are we willing to step out of our comfort zones and help others, even when it means facing challenges or delaying our own peace?
