You might think that having God's Word means you're automatically wise. But Jeremiah calls out a dangerous deception many people fall into, even today.
Jeremiah confronts a nation that proudly claims wisdom and God's law as their own. They boast, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us!' (Jeremiah 8:8). This sounds good on the surface, right? Who wouldn't want to be wise and have God's truth?
The Crucial Difference
But Jeremiah immediately exposes their hollow claim. True wisdom isn't just about possessing the Law; it's about obeying it and letting it shape your life. Their outward claim to wisdom and the Law was a smokescreen for their inner rebellion and ignorance of God's true heart.
They had the scrolls, they could quote the verses, but their lives didn't reflect God's character or commands. They were like someone who owns a detailed map but never consults it while lost in the wilderness.
