Joseph isn't just offering his family a place to live; he's inviting them into his inner circle. By saying "you shall be near me," he's emphasizing his desire for restored relationship and closeness, not just geographical proximity. This shows how, even after all they've been through, reconciliation means wanting genuine connection.
You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children’s children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’
English Standard Version (ESV)

He immediately offers them a place to live in the fertile region of Goshen, close to him, so he can provide for them during the remaining years of the famine.
Why did Joseph choose Goshen for his family? It wasn't just a random pasture; it was a place chosen with purpose, offering both protection and a future.
When Joseph arranges for his family to live in Goshen, he's making a strategic move. This region, located in the northeastern part of Egypt near the border of Canaan, was ideal for several reasons:
Being 'near' Joseph wasn't just about geography; it was about being enveloped by God's protective care, even in a foreign land.
