We love to judge, don't we? It feels good to be right, to see clearly. But Paul warns us to pump the brakes.
Paul's instruction here is radical: stop judging each other before the time. Why? Because our understanding is limited. We see the surface, the actions, maybe even the immediate motives. But we don't see what God sees.
The Lord's Return is the Deadline
He points to the Lord's coming as the definitive moment for judgment. This isn't just about when judgment happens, but about who has the authority and the full picture. God alone has access to:
- Hidden Things: The secrets, the unseen struggles, the silent battles.
- Purposes of the Heart: The deepest motivations, the genuine intentions, the true desires.
Until that day, our judgments are incomplete, potentially unfair, and frankly, not our job. Our role is to live faithfully, not to play judge.
