What exactly is death's 'sting'? It's not just the physical end, but something far more profound and terrifying.
The 'sting' of death, in biblical terms, is its power to condemn and separate us from God. This sting is directly linked to sin.
Sin's Penalty
According to Scripture, the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). This means sin brings spiritual death – a broken relationship with a holy God. Death, therefore, carries the weight of judgment and separation.
Christ Absorbed the Sting
However, through Jesus' sacrifice, the power of sin and its penalty has been broken. He took the sting upon Himself on the cross, absorbing the condemnation that was due to us. Because of His atoning work, death can no longer deliver that fatal, condemnatory blow to those who are in Christ.
