This verse emphasizes that the "Branch" will "grow up out of his place" not just geographically, but by his own power, hinting at his miraculous conception and divine origin. Furthermore, "he shall build the temple of the Lord" points beyond the physical structure to the spiritual temple of the Church, which Christ himself, as the foundation and builder, would establish.
And say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD. It is he who shall build the temple of the LORD and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’
English Standard Version (ESV)
Zechariah has just witnessed a symbolic act where Joshua, the high priest, is crowned as a representation of both king and priest. Now, the prophet is instructed to explain that this crowning isn't ultimately about Joshua, but about a future figure called "the Branch," who will arise from humble beginnings and accomplish God's ultimate building project. This points beyond the restoration of the physical temple to the Messiah's work of establishing God's spiritual kingdom.
