Satan doesn't always attack with overt force. Sometimes, his strategy is a flood of something seemingly natural, yet utterly destructive.
In Revelation 12:15, the serpent (Satan) casts out water like a flood after the woman (representing God's people). This isn't literal water, but a powerful symbol.
A Flood of Deception
Commentators consistently see this 'water' as representing overwhelming forces aimed at destroying the church. It can symbolize:
- Massive Invasions: Like the barbarian hordes that swarmed the Roman Empire, often incited by pagan elements hoping to crush Christianity.
- Hostile Public Opinion: Stirred up by crowds and popular movements, turning people against believers.
- Waves of False Doctrine: Heresies and corrupt teachings that threaten to sweep away sound belief and practice.
The key is that these are forces designed to 'carry away' or destroy the woman, making her vulnerable and isolated.
