Nehemiah 12:22-23

This verse highlights a subtle but profound shift: Jewish history's importance was moving from royal reigns to the succession of high priests and their recorded lineage. This change underscores how critical maintaining an accurate spiritual and family record became for their identity after the exile, especially as they approached the era of Alexander the Great.
In the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan, and Jaddua, the Levites were recorded as heads of fathers’ houses; so too were the priests in the reign of Darius the Persian. As for the sons of Levi, their heads of fathers’ houses were written in the Book of the Chronicles until the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib.
