This verse highlights a crucial distinction: while firstfruits and offerings were brought directly to the priests in Jerusalem, the tithes from the land were collected by the Levites within their own towns. This shows how the system was designed to support both the central worship in the temple and the wider ministry of the Levites across the land. It’s easy to overlook that the Levites were empowered to collect these tithes locally, reflecting a decentralized aspect of God's provision for His servants.
