Jesus uses a simple, relatable image: trees and their fruit. But what's the deep connection He's drawing between our inner selves and our outward actions?
Jesus is clear: the fruit tells the story of the tree. A healthy tree naturally produces good fruit, and a diseased or corrupt tree naturally produces bad fruit. This isn't about occasional slip-ups; it's about the tree's fundamental nature.
Think about it: a lemon tree doesn't suddenly decide to produce apples. Its very being is lemon. Likewise, Jesus is saying our actions, our 'fruit,' are the inevitable expression of our inner selves – our hearts, our core being. If our hearts are right with God, producing good fruit will be natural. If our hearts are far from Him, the 'fruit' will reflect that.
This means our outward actions aren't just isolated events; they are powerful indicators of what's truly going on inside us. We can't fake the fruit forever.
