Peter pulled Jesus aside, wanting to speak to him privately. His heart was full of love and loyalty, but his understanding was still deeply flawed.
Peter’s action, described as 'taking him aside' (προσλαβόμενος), shows a familiar and bold affection. He felt he had a right to speak frankly with Jesus, especially after Jesus had just affirmed his identity as the Christ.
A Personal Plea
Peter’s strong attachment to Jesus and his expectation of a triumphant Messiah made him recoil from the idea of suffering. He couldn't bear the thought of Jesus dying. This wasn't malice, but a deep-seated desire to protect the one he loved and believed was destined for earthly glory.
The Danger of Human Logic
However, this loving intention was completely out of step with God’s plan. Peter was applying human logic and desires to divine purposes, showing a profound misunderstanding of Jesus' mission. His 'good intention' was leading him down a dangerous path.
