Jesus drops a truth bomb here that sounds harsh at first. How can loving family be wrong?
Jesus isn't telling us to stop loving our families. He's saying that our love for Him needs to be the highest, the supreme love. It's about rightful order. Think of it like a hierarchy of love. Our natural affections for parents, children, and spouses are good and God-given, but they must not take precedence over our devotion to Christ. If we find ourselves choosing family loyalty over obedience to Jesus, or if their desires pull us away from Him, then our love for them is out of order and not truly worthy of Him. He must have the top spot, the number one allegiance, because He is God and our Redeemer, infinitely more lovable than any earthly relation.
