Why would Jesus, right after feeding thousands, push his closest friends away? It wasn't rejection; it was a deliberate, strategic move.
A Calculated Departure
Right after the incredible miracle of feeding the 5,000, Jesus doesn't linger in the spotlight. Instead, he constrains his disciples to get into a boat and head across the Sea of Galilee.
- For Him: Jesus needed space to process, to connect with His Father, and to prepare for what was next. The immense crowds and the disciples’ potential misunderstanding of his mission (wanting to make him king) created a pressure cooker.
- For Them: The disciples were also pushed into a new kind of learning. Separated from Jesus' immediate presence, they would face a challenge that would test and reveal their faith in ways intimacy couldn't.
This wasn't about Jesus wanting to be alone from his disciples, but rather needing to be alone with God, and sending them ahead allowed for that crucial, and for them, instructive, separation.
