We often say 'God is true,' but what does that really mean? Jeremiah 10:10 uses a powerful phrasing that suggests God is more than just truthful; He is truth.
God as Truth
Jeremiah declares, 'the LORD is the true God.' The original language here doesn't just mean God speaks truth; it implies He is truth in His very essence. Think of it like saying a 'healthy person' – health is inherent to them. God isn't just like truth; He is the ultimate reality, the standard against which all else is measured.
This is why Jesus could say, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life' (John 14:6). God's very nature is truth. His words, actions, and promises are always reliable because truth is woven into the fabric of His being. This stands in stark contrast to the idols Jeremiah is addressing, which are falsehoods given form.
