This verse isn't just a list of impressive titles for the coming Messiah; it's a profound declaration that His reign will fundamentally reshape reality. The phrases "Wonderful Counselor" and "Mighty God" don't just describe His attributes, but the experience of encountering His wisdom and power, while "Everlasting Father" and "Prince of Peace" highlight the relational nature of His eternal kingdom. This isn't merely a political leader, but the very source of enduring peace and loving authority, meant to bring about a transformation far beyond earthly expectations.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
