Hebrews 11:4-5

Abel's sacrifice wasn't just "better" because of what he brought, but because his offering was a tangible expression of his reliance on God's promised provision, speaking volumes about his faith even after his death. The text highlights that God accepted Abel first, and then his gifts, underscoring that personal righteousness through faith is the true prerequisite for accepted worship.
By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.
English Standard Version (ESV)
The author begins the eleventh chapter of Hebrews by introducing the concept of faith as the means by which people in the past pleased God. This verse immediately launches into the first example: Abel, the second son of Adam and Eve, whose offering was accepted by God unlike his brother Cain's. The passage emphasizes that Abel's righteousness and commended status stemmed not just from his actions, but from the faithful attitude behind them.
Why was Abel's offering accepted when Cain's wasn't? The answer isn't in what they brought, but how they brought it.
The key to understanding Abel's offering lies in the word 'faith.' The text in Hebrews explicitly states it was 'by faith' that Abel offered his sacrifice.
Abel died a violent death, yet the Bible says 'he still speaks.' How can a dead man communicate?
This verse makes a profound statement about the lasting impact of faith and righteousness, even after death.
