The verse doesn't just describe God's power; it shows the reaction of creation itself, personifying natural elements like mountains and the deep as if they were living beings responding to God's presence. This is not just a poetic flourish, but an ancient way of conveying how the fundamental forces of the universe instinctively acknowledge and yield to their Creator.
The mountains saw you and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice; it lifted its hands on high. The sun and moon stood still in their place at the light of your arrows as they sped, at the flash of your glittering spear.
