This promise goes beyond just peace and prosperity; it's about a new kind of relationship. God isn't just making a treaty; He's establishing an "everlasting covenant of peace" that will culminate in His tangible presence—His sanctuary—dwelling with His people, pointing to a deeper, unbroken communion than ever before.
I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore. My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Just before this, God has revealed a powerful vision of dry bones coming to life, symbolizing the restoration of the scattered people of Israel. Now, the Lord is detailing the results of that restoration, promising a new, enduring covenant of peace that will firmly re-establish His people in their land with abundant life and His sacred presence dwelling among them forever.
When we hear 'peace,' we often think of no fighting. But God's 'peace' in this covenant is so much richer than that.
A Deeper Kind of Peace
The "covenant of peace" mentioned here isn't just about stopping wars or having calm days. It's a profound, relational peace.
Imagine the ultimate sense of belonging – God Himself choosing to live right in the middle of His people, forever.
The Sacred Space
