Ever felt like an outsider, looking in? The apostle Paul uses powerful imagery to describe the dramatic shift that happens when someone comes to faith in Christ.
Before Christ, Gentiles were considered 'strangers and aliens' – terms that carried real weight.
- Strangers (xenoi): This speaks to being outsiders to the promises and covenants of God. You were not part of the people God had set apart.
- Aliens/Foreigners (paroikoi): This term suggests a resident alien, someone living in a land but without the rights or full belonging of a citizen. You could be tolerated, but you weren't truly home or part of the civic body.
But here's the incredible turnaround: through Christ's work, breaking down the dividing wall (which we saw in the previous verses!), you are no longer defined by that distance. You've been brought into a new commonwealth, a new 'city' with full rights and belonging.
