Daniel's spirit is described as being "grieved in the midst of its sheath," a striking metaphor that portrays the body not just as a physical container, but as a temporary "sheath" for the soul. This imagery emphasizes the profound spiritual distress Daniel felt, suggesting his inner being was so deeply affected that it impacted his very essence, almost as if his spirit was being painfully drawn from its mortal housing.
“As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious, and the visions of my head alarmed me. I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of the things.

The Bible uses vivid metaphors to describe our inner lives. Daniel's experience introduces a unique image: the body as a 'sheath' for the spirit.
The phrase "in the midst of my body" has a fascinating linguistic background. Commentators point out that the original Aramaic word can also be translated as "sheath" or "scabbard."
