We often think of anger as just anger. But the Bible shows a profound difference between God's righteous anger and our destructive, human rage. Oded highlights this contrast.
A Holy Fire, A Destructive Blaze
In 2 Chronicles 28, King Ahaz of Judah had led his people into terrible sin. As a result, God, in His righteous anger, allowed the invading army of Israel (the northern kingdom) to defeat Judah. But something went wrong.
The Israelites, fueled by their own rage and the spoils of war, began to slaughter the defeated Judean soldiers and even planned to enslave their women and children. This is where Oded the prophet steps in.
- God's Anger: It's often a response to sin and injustice, meant to correct and bring about repentance. It's controlled and has a purpose, even when severe.
- Human Rage: This is uncontrolled, often stemming from bitterness, pride, or a desire for revenge. It's destructive, exceeding the bounds of justice and leading to further sin, as Oded points out by saying their rage reached to heaven – a place where God's justice resides.
