Imagine the church split in two. Which side would you choose, and why? The Levites faced a similar, monumental decision.
When the kingdom of Israel fractured after Solomon's reign, the nation divided into two: the northern kingdom of Israel (under Jeroboam) and the southern kingdom of Judah (under Rehoboam). Jeroboam immediately set up rival worship centers with golden calves, pushing away from the Lord's established worship in Jerusalem.
In response, God's appointed servants, the priests and Levites, made a decisive move. They didn't stay where they were, trying to serve God in a system that was actively opposing Him. Instead, they left their homes and lands across all of Israel to rally around Rehoboam in Jerusalem, the city that remained committed to the Lord. This was more than just a job change; it was a public declaration of allegiance to God and His covenant. They chose faithfulness over convenience, truth over tradition, and God's way over man's way.
