Abraham had many sons, but only one was chosen to carry God's covenant promises forward. Why Isaac and not Ishmael?
The Chosen Line
Abraham, the father of faith, had two prominent sons: Ishmael, born of Hagar, and Isaac, born of Sarah. While both were Abraham's offspring, the biblical narrative makes it crystal clear that God's covenant—the lineage through which the Messiah would come—was established through Isaac.
God explicitly told Abraham, 'No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his offspring after him.' (Genesis 17:19). This wasn't a matter of favoritism but of divine appointment and purpose. Ishmael was blessed, but the unique covenant relationship was with Isaac.
