The verse highlights a complete reversal of the sacred/secular divide: not only are temple vessels holy, but even everyday pots in people's homes are designated as "holiness to the LORD." This radical holiness means common items become available for divine service, symbolizing a future where all of life is dedicated to God, and the distinction between the sacred and the profane disappears entirely.
And every pot in Jerusalem and Judah shall be holy to the LORD of hosts, so that all who sacrifice may come and take of them and boil the meat of the sacrifice in them. And there shall no longer be a trader in the house of the LORD of hosts on that day.
English Standard Version (ESV)
This verse concludes Zechariah's vision by describing a future, perfected Jerusalem where everything, even ordinary household items, is holy to God. The imagery emphasizes that there will be no more impure or foreign influences, represented by the "Canaanite," within God's presence, signifying a complete spiritual cleansing and transformation of His people and their dwelling place. This ultimate state of holiness replaces all commercial dealings within the sacred space, ensuring everything is dedicated solely to the Lord of Hosts.
Imagine your coffee mug or your favorite cooking pot being declared 'holy.' Zechariah paints a picture of a future where even the most ordinary items in Jerusalem are transformed by God's presence.

Zechariah's Prophecy of Ultimate Holiness
Zechariah envisions a future perfected state for Jerusalem and the Temple, where all things and people are holy to the Lord, and all forms of impurity and exploitation are banished.
This passage speaks of a highway where 'no unclean person shall pass over it,' echoing Zechariah's vision of a purified Jerusalem where no 'Canaanite' (representing impurity) will be found.
Revelation 21:27This New Testament prophecy describes the New Jerusalem, stating 'nothing unclean will ever enter it,' which directly parallels the idea of complete holiness and the absence of defilement in God's dwelling place envisioned by Zechariah.
John 2:14-16Jesus driving out the money changers from the Temple directly illustrates the principle Zechariah describes: the house of God should be a place of pure worship, free from commercialism and impurity.
1 Corinthians 10:31Paul's instruction to 'do all to the glory of God' connects with Zechariah's prophecy that even common household items like pots will be considered holy, implying that all aspects of life will be dedicated to God's honor.
Ezekiel 44:7-9This passage from Ezekiel condemns the bringing of 'uncircumcised in heart and flesh' into the sanctuary, highlighting the ongoing concern throughout Scripture for the purity of God's dwelling and His people, a theme that culminates in Zechariah's vision.
