We often call Jesus 'Savior,' but did you know the Bible also calls the Father 'God our Savior'?
The title 'God our Savior' in this verse is applied to God the Father. This might seem surprising, but it highlights the cooperative work of the Trinity in salvation.
The Father's Role in Salvation
The Father is our Savior in the sense that He devised the plan of salvation, sent His Son, and appointed Him as our representative. He is the source of the saving grace that was manifested.
The Trinity's Unified Plan
This isn't to diminish the role of Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Rather, it emphasizes that salvation is a unified act of the entire Godhead. The Father initiates, the Son accomplishes, and the Spirit applies. When Paul calls the Father 'God our Savior,' he's pointing to the eternal Father who, from all eternity, devised the means for our recovery and provided the One Who could save us.
