What's easy to miss is that "baptized into his death" isn't just a symbol; it means we're brought into a real relationship with Christ's death. This connection means we are, in a profound sense, identified with him in that act, which fundamentally changes our relationship with sin.
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Paul is addressing the idea that since believers are united with Christ, they should not continue to live in sin. He reminds them that baptism is the public declaration of this union, signifying a complete identification with Christ's death and resurrection. Therefore, to live in sin after being baptized would be a contradiction of their new identity in Christ.

When Paul speaks of being "baptized into Christ Jesus," he's not just talking about the physical act. This phrase signifies a deep, spiritual union. It means you are brought into Christ, so that you belong to Him, becoming part of His very being and mission.
