Glory, honor, immortality – these sound grand, but what do they truly represent, and how do they point to eternal life?
The verse lists 'glory, and honor and immortality' as the objects of pursuit, ultimately leading to 'eternal life.' These are not merely abstract concepts but rich descriptions of the heavenly reward.
More Than Just Existing Forever
- Glory (Doxa): This refers to splendor, majesty, and supreme value. In God’s presence, we will share in His magnificent radiance and dignity.
- Honor (Time): This speaks of recognition, high regard, and reward. It signifies the deep honor bestowed by God on His faithful servants.
- Immortality (Athanasia): Literally 'incorruptibility,' this points to a state free from decay, death, and the limitations of our current existence. It's a life that endures perfectly.
These three terms collectively paint a picture of the abundant, radiant, and unending life that God promises. 'Eternal life' isn't just an endless duration; it's a quality of life – life lived in perfect communion with God, characterized by His glory, honor, and incorruptibility.
