We think we understand things, but Paul reminds us that God's thinking is on a whole different level.
Following the mention of God's riches, Paul marvels at His wisdom and knowledge. These aren't just abstract qualities; they are the very fabric of His divine plan.
Divine Counsel
God's wisdom is the ability to ordain the best means for the best ends. His knowledge encompasses everything – past, present, and future. Together, they represent the perfect understanding and execution of His eternal purposes.
Unfathomable Plans
Paul calls God's "judgments" (His decisions and decrees) and "ways" (His methods and actions) "unsearchable" and "past finding out." This doesn't mean God's plans are random or unknowable in their entirety. Rather, their full scope, intricate connections, and ultimate purposes are beyond human comprehension. We see glimpses, but never the whole picture.
Humility in Understanding
This incomprehensibility should lead us to humility, not arrogance. We are called to trust and adore, not to dissect and demand answers for every mystery. As commentators note, Paul himself, even with his profound spiritual insight, ends in awe and wonder.
