This isn't just about angels and humans cheering; the praise swells to include every single thing God made—even inanimate elements and creatures under the earth. It’s a breathtaking, cosmic affirmation that the whole created order, in its entirety, is destined to ascribe worth to the One on the throne and the Lamb.
And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”
English Standard Version (ESV)
Following the powerful scene of the Lamb opening the scroll and receiving worship from the elders and heavenly hosts, this verse expands the scope of praise. It declares that every single created thing, from the highest heavens to the deepest seas and even realms beneath the earth, joins in a universal acclamation. This cosmic chorus magnifies the Father on the throne and the victorious Lamb, acknowledging their eternal worth and reign.
We often think of praise as something only believers do. But Revelation 5:13 expands that circle to… well, everyone and everything!
This verse paints a breathtaking picture of universal worship. John hears every creature joining in the grand doxology. This isn't just about angels and redeemed humans; it includes beings in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea.
A Cosmic Chorus
This vast scope reminds us that God’s sovereignty and Christ’s redemption are not limited to a select few. The entire created order, in its own way, echoes His glory.
The praise in this verse isn't just a general shout-out to God. It specifically names two glorious figures and links them directly.

The core of this incredible worship service is directed to 'him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb.' This is a profound theological statement:
Unified Worthiness
The repeated inclusion of both the Father and the Lamb in the book of Revelation underscores that Christ shares fully in God's glory and authority. Their receiving the same 'blessing and honor and glory and might' isn't a division of worship, but a recognition of their unified divine essence and purpose.
Look closely at the words used to describe the praise offered. They aren't random; they build to a powerful crescendo.
The praise directed to the Father and the Lamb is described with four magnificent terms: 'blessing and honor and glory and might.' This isn't just a list; it's a theological summary of everything God is and does.
Defining the Attributes
This fourfold description provides a comprehensive picture of the attributes worthy of eternal worship. It encompasses His character, His actions, and His ultimate authority over all creation. The inclusion of these specific terms amplifies the awe and reverence commanded by God and the Lamb.
This Psalm is a magnificent call for all creation – from the highest heavens to the deepest seas, including angels, sun, moon, stars, animals, and even inanimate objects – to praise God. It directly parallels Revelation 5:13's vision of universal acclamation.
Philippians 2:10-11This passage describes a future moment when every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Revelation 5:13 shows this confession happening universally, fulfilling this prophecy with absolute certainty.
Romans 8:20-22Here, Paul speaks of creation groaning and being subjected to futility, eagerly awaiting its own redemption. Revelation 5:13 depicts creation actively participating in praise, suggesting that its groaning will indeed turn into joyous celebration upon redemption.
Isaiah 55:12This verse promises that the mountains and hills will break forth into singing, and the trees of the field will clap their hands. Revelation 5:13 actualizes this poetic imagery, showing the entire creation joining in a chorus of praise to God and the Lamb.
