Psalm 84:10-11

The Psalmist’s profound yearning isn't just for access, but for any proximity to God's presence. He’d rather be a doorkeeper, literally on the threshold, than live in comfort and luxury among the wicked, revealing that even the humblest position serving God is infinitely more valuable than the grandest worldly reward.
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Psalmist is expressing an intense longing to be in God's presence, contrasting the joy found in worship with the emptiness of worldly pursuits. Having previously described the blessedness of dwelling in God's house, this passage elevates that desire to a fervent plea, preferring even the most humble position at God's sanctuary over any comfort or status among those who live in wickedness. The following verses will continue to extol God's faithfulness and the blessing of trusting in Him, reinforcing the idea that true security and joy come from Him alone.
Imagine choosing between a single day with someone you love or a thousand days with strangers. The Psalmist makes a similar, radical choice when it comes to God's presence.
The Psalmist doesn't just say that time in God's presence is good, he says it's infinitely better than any alternative.
A Thousand Times Better
What's the lowest, most humble position you can imagine serving in God's house? The Psalmist would choose it over the highest seat among the ungodly.

This psalm's intense desire for the Temple courts speaks volumes when we remember the historical context: the longing for a place of worship that was sometimes lost, whether through distance or destruction. It reminds us that physical presence in God's house was deeply valued, and this longing can teach us to cherish our own opportunities for worship, whether in person or in spirit.

A day in thy courts is better than a thousand - Not only better than one thousand in captivity, as the Chaldee states, but any where else. (10) I had rather be a doorkeeper. —Better, I had rather wait on the threshold, as not worthy (LXX. and Vulgate, “be rejected in scorn”) to enter the precincts.
