The verse emphasizes that God didn't just "make" us; He "knitted" us together, suggesting an intricate, deliberate weaving of every part. This isn't about a general creation but a detailed, personal crafting where even the hidden, inner workings of our being were intricately formed by His hand.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
English Standard Version (ESV)
The Psalmist is exploring God's intimate knowledge of him, moving from his presence everywhere to his knowledge of his deepest self. He marvels that God saw him and intricately formed him even before he was born, emphasizing that his very being is a divine creation. This leads him to declare that God's knowledge extends to every part of his existence, from conception to his current awareness.
Ever felt like just a random accident? This verse reminds us that your existence is no mistake. God was actively involved from the very start.
