What’s striking here is that the text highlights David’s solemn oath and vow, but the historical accounts don't explicitly detail it. This suggests the psalm is not just recounting history, but emphasizing the deep, personal commitment David made to God's presence, a commitment so profound it became a defining characteristic of his reign.
how he swore to the LORD and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, “I will not enter my house or get into my bed, I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
English Standard Version (ESV)
This psalm begins by recalling David's deep personal commitment to God and his fervent desire to establish a permanent dwelling place for the Ark of the Covenant. It highlights a solemn oath David made, vowing to the powerful God of Jacob that he would not rest until he had secured a home for the Lord's presence. This personal vow is presented as the foundation for the prayer that follows, linking David's devotion to the future establishment of the Temple and God's continued blessing.
The Bible doesn't always record every detail of a person's life. Sometimes, the most profound commitments are known only to God and the one who made them.
Psalms 132:2 speaks of David swearing an oath and vowing a vow to the Lord. Interestingly, this specific vow isn't detailed in the historical accounts of David's life (like 2 Samuel or 1 Chronicles).
