Does God hear prayers from rock bottom?
This psalm assures us that even the most desperate cries can reach the ears of the Almighty.
The crucial turning point in this verse is that the cry, though from the depths, is directed to the LORD. The commentaries highlight that these depths, while separating the psalmist from everything else, paradoxically bring him closer to God.
It's a cry born of necessity, not despair. The psalmist isn't resigned to his fate; he's actively reaching out. This teaches us that God is not distant from our suffering. In fact, our lowest moments can become the very place where our most earnest prayers are forged, finding their way through any obstruction to His attention.
