Why would such a holy table need a simple blue cloth spread over it?
God's instructions for the tabernacle's furniture were incredibly detailed, and this verse is no exception. Notice the blue cloth spread over the table of the bread of the Presence.
Protecting the Sacred
This wasn't just any cloth; it was specifically designated to cover the table and its sacred vessels. Its purpose was practical: to protect the precious items from dust and damage as the tabernacle was moved. It also served to obscure them from view, reminding the Kohathite Levites, who were responsible for carrying this furniture, that they were not to touch or even gaze upon these holy things directly.
Symbolism of Blue
The color blue itself often symbolized heaven, God's throne, or divine truth in the Old Testament. This choice of color may have reinforced the heavenly nature of the bread and its presentation before the Lord.
