Ever wondered how prophets heard from God? It wasn't always booming voices from the sky!
In this passage, God explains how He usually communicates with His prophets. He uses two main methods:
In a Vision
This is when God makes Himself known to a prophet while they are awake. It's like a vivid mental picture or a spiritual sight that clarifies God's message. Think of Jeremiah seeing the almond branch and the boiling pot, or Ezekiel seeing dry bones. It's a direct, often symbolic, communication that bypasses normal sensory experience but feels very real.
In a Dream
This is God's communication during sleep. Like the dreams given to Jacob or Daniel, these are divine messages that come to the prophet while they are resting. While we might dismiss dreams, God uses them as a powerful way to reveal His will and future plans.
These methods were God's standard ways of revealing Himself to most prophets, setting a baseline for how His messengers received His Word.
