When life feels overwhelming, what if the answer isn't grit, but gladness? Nehemiah gives us a profound clue.
The people of Israel had just heard the Law read aloud for the first time in generations, and it hit them hard. They were convicted, weeping over their sin and distance from God. But Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites pivot them from sorrow to celebration. They remind them, "this day is holy to our Lord." It’s not a day for mourning, but for feasting and joy.
The key instruction is: "the joy of the LORD is your strength." This isn't a fleeting, emotional high. It's a deep-seated delight in the Lord – His character, His promises, His presence. This delight is what fuels us. When we anchor our hearts in who God is and what He has done, we find a reservoir of strength that enables us to face any challenge, perform any duty, and resist any enemy, both external and internal.
