What’s the most extravagant gift you can imagine giving? Micah 6:7 pushes the limits, asking about thousands of rams and rivers of oil.
The people of Israel, and even surrounding nations, had a common misconception about how to approach God. They thought bigger, more numerous, or more costly sacrifices would surely impress Him.
- Mountains of Animals: Imagine not just one, but thousands of rams. The sheer quantity was meant to show immense effort and devotion.
- Floods of Oil: Then, envision rivers of oil – enough to fill torrents. Oil was a key part of offerings, symbolizing richness and sustenance.
These were extreme offerings, far beyond the norm. They represent the idea of throwing everything valuable and abundant at the problem of sin. But Micah is highlighting that this wasn't the point.
