Many people call Jesus 'Lord,' but is that enough to get into heaven? Jesus here warns against a dangerous trap: mistaking outward religious acts for genuine inner transformation.
It's Not About Applause
Jesus isn't saying that calling Him 'Lord' is wrong. In fact, it's a good and necessary confession! But He's highlighting that only saying the words, or performing religious actions without a true heart connection, won't cut it.
Think about it: people might have 'prophesied,' 'cast out demons,' or done 'many wonderful works' in Jesus' name (Matthew 7:22). These are incredible spiritual activities! But Jesus says, 'I never knew you' (Matthew 7:23) to those who did these things without doing God's will.
This isn't about God withholding power from the faithful. It's about recognizing that external actions, even miraculous ones, don't automatically equal a genuine relationship with God. True discipleship is deeper than a performance.
