Jesus' parable takes an unexpected turn, sending messengers beyond the usual spots. What does this shift reveal about who God is calling?
Beyond the City Walls
In this parable, Jesus paints a picture of a king throwing a lavish wedding feast for his son. Initially, the king sent invitations to those he expected – the important folks in town.
But when they refused, the king didn't give up. He instructed his servants to go out, not just to the main streets inside the city, but to the 'highways' and 'crossroads.'
Think of these places: they were outside the city limits, where different roads converged. This was where travelers, merchants, and people from all walks of life passed through – the common, the unknown, and even those considered outcasts by society. This imagery powerfully represents the Gospel's mission: to go to everyone, not just those who seem religious or important, but all humanity, wherever they are found.
