David, a man after God's own heart, once broke a sacred rule. Why? And what does that tell us about God?
Jesus uses the example of King David, who, when fleeing from Saul and desperately hungry, ate the showbread. This bread was specifically designated for the priests and was considered holy. Eating it was technically against the law for anyone outside the priestly line. However, the text records this event without condemnation. Jesus uses this to show that God understands and makes allowances for human need, especially when life is at stake. David's action, and the lack of rebuke for it, sets a precedent that necessity can override strict ritualistic observance.
