Jesus is the Prince of Peace, so how can His coming lead to such conflict?
The peace Jesus offers is fundamentally different from the world's idea of peace. Worldly peace often means the absence of conflict, a comfortable status quo, or even agreement based on compromise or silence.
Spiritual Peace vs. Earthly Peace
Jesus came to bring spiritual peace: reconciliation between God and humanity through His sacrifice. This inner peace, known only to believers, is profound and lasting. However, this spiritual reality often clashes with the 'peace' of the ungodly world, which is built on rebellion against God.
Truth as the Dividing Line
When Jesus' followers live out their faith, they bring a peace that the world, in its resistance to God, cannot tolerate. This truth becomes a 'sword,' exposing the deep-seated animosity between those aligned with God and those opposed to Him. The conflict arises not from Jesus' message itself, but from humanity's sinful rejection of it.
