Jesus returned to his hometown, and the people immediately recognized him. But their recognition led to offense, not worship. Why?
The people of Nazareth knew Jesus from his childhood. They knew his family, his mother, and his siblings. They knew him as the local carpenter.
This familiarity was precisely the problem. They couldn't reconcile the humble carpenter they grew up with to the profound wisdom and powerful miracles he was now demonstrating.
- A Man, Not a God: They saw him as one of them, a man from a humble background, and therefore incapable of possessing divine wisdom or performing supernatural works. They knew his earthly family, but missed his heavenly Father.
- The Stumbling Block of the Ordinary: His ordinariness became a barrier. Instead of seeing God's power through the familiar, they saw only the familiar and dismissed the divine. They searched for earthly reasons for his abilities, unable to accept the divine source.
