Jesus didn't rush His first disciples. He met them where they were, even in the middle of their work.
Notice how Jesus's call wasn't a sudden, jarring interruption for James and John. He found them in their boat, mending their nets. This wasn't a moment of idleness; it was ordinary work, a necessary task to prepare for their livelihood.
This shows us God's patience and His ability to weave His plans into the fabric of our everyday lives. He doesn't always call us away from our responsibilities in a dramatic fashion. Sometimes, His call is found in the quiet moments of duty, preparing us for a greater work.
