Ever feel like a small idea or effort won't make a difference? Jesus faced this too, but His parables reveal a different perspective on growth.
Jesus asks, 'To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?' (Luke 13:18). He then uses two powerful images: the mustard seed and leaven.
The Mustard Seed
This tiny seed, the smallest of all, grows into a large tree where birds can nest. It's a picture of how the kingdom, starting with Jesus and a few followers, will expand incredibly, offering refuge and shelter to people from all nations. The initial smallness is deceptive; the potential is immense.
The Leaven
This small amount of leaven, hidden in a large amount of flour, works its way through the whole mixture. It represents the pervasive, transforming power of God's kingdom. It doesn't just exist alongside things; it actively changes them from the inside out, bringing about a complete transformation over time.
