You can probably tell if it’s going to rain just by looking outside. So why are people so bad at seeing what’s happening with God’s kingdom?
Jesus uses a simple, everyday observation to highlight a profound spiritual problem.
Masters of the Obvious
People easily understood the signs of coming rain. A cloud rising from the west over the Mediterranean Sea was a sure sign of a downpour in their region. They didn't hesitate; they said, 'A shower is coming,' and they were right.
Missing the Real Storm
But Jesus points out the shocking contrast: they were blind to the most critical signs unfolding right before their eyes. They could read the weather, but they couldn’t discern the ‘time’ – the arrival of the Messiah and the dawning of God’s reign. They were spiritually unobservant, failing to connect the dots between His miracles, His teachings, and the ancient prophecies pointing to Him.
